The Politics of Fashion

If you’ve been on a different planet for the last weeks you may not have noticed that it’s the major party conference season again. And in case you don’t know what this means its when the Lib Dems, Labour and this week, Conservatives, all get together and have a good ole chin wag about their upcoming policies, have a bitch and moan about the opposing sides and parade their wives in the hope they will win the personality element of the competition.
Now this years conference’s are pretty major. The UK has to have an election between now and June 2010 so it could possibly be the only opportunity the leaders will get to stand on a big stage and say how great they are compared to everyone else. Which is all very well and good but really we know at the end of the day it will probably come down to who we feel is closest to telling the truth, I mean you can’t fault Cameron for his earnest-ness, can you? But, will he actually achieve what he says he wants to? Perhaps we should look over the Atlantic at Obama? He was ever so earnest but seems to coming across a few obstacles of his own. That, and who has the best tie collection.
And of course, there is the wife effect. Everyone knows that the first lady tends to be seen and not heard so the major impact they have on the world stage is what their clothes say about them. I’m not going to bore you with notes on Michelle and Carla but concentrate on what Sarah and Samantha have to say, or more to the point what their clothes say about them – and interesting their husbands policies.
Lets start with Sarah as we should being her our own first lady an’all, who again introduced her husband on to the stage for his keynote speech this year. So, a £600 Erdem dress – which was a great lesson in how to kill a designers reputation in one easy move – and £350 pair of Jimmy Choo’s later and we’re not really too impressed.
And then there’s Samantha… David doesn’t deliver his key note speech until later today so it will be interesting to see if she gets changed. But she arrived at the conference today in the same shoes as yesterday (she clearly knows how to pack a compact wardrobe) which were £29 from Zara, skirt from Joseph, Coz top and a lovely belt from re-established brand, Jeager. The whole outfit costing less then Sarah Brown’s Jimmy Choo’s.
Ladies, it just goes to show that money can’t buy you taste, or your way out of a recession…but it can buy you good shoes…. look below to find out how!
OK, so you want to look like Sarah or Samantha but have lovely small feet and can’t buy designer or high street shoes? Then, here are my suggests from www.pretty-small-shoes .com
The Sarah shoe – brown, satin court shoe with a pointy toe. It can only be the B-Lush.
And for Samatha – dark grey leather with hidden platform shoe , it’s the Lou-Lou for you – although apologies I don’t have a picture of the grey to show you here – go direct to the web page!
Enjoy the rest of your week ladies!! As always, your politically aware and shoe obsessed - Little One
